The behemoth tent

We camped again over the weekend, just for one night.  As we found a great deal on a 6-person tent a couple weeks ago, we eagerly anticipated our chance to try it out at a campsite. Since we weren’t sure if camping would happen or not, we elected to not make reservations ahead of time and showed up at the lake hoping for a good spot.  We found one that seemed secluded but then decided to try to avoid the swarming mosquitos and moved to the adjacent site which was higher up.  At that point, the tent had been opened but not staked so Dad (aka Atlas) picked up the tent and carried it 10 miles.  Ok, I exaggerate.  Just checking to see if you’re actually reading this post!

The following photo looks like our car is enveloped in a fire but it’s actually smoke from our fire pit that billowed over that direction.

I might win “mom of the year” (wink, wink) again for the pathetic meals the girls ate while camping – mostly just sugar. This kettle corn snackfest continued all the way home.

This morning’s show outside our window

We came home from dropping Unni off at preschool and running an errand to find our street full of heavy machinery putting down new pavement. So, despite a few items that needed refrigeration, we took a detour from home to Starbucks.

After an hour, I got worried about the groceries and decided to see if we could slip into our driveway somehow. We did, but then the equipment rolled down the other side of the street to finish off the project. What an interesting show, though for Little Miss Curious!

Hopefully we can get out to pick up the preschooler!

Charlotte’s web

The other morning I found the start of a beautiful spider web. The next morning, I snapped this photo of the complex yet simple web that was even bigger than the previous day.

High heels

This girl definitely has an attraction to shoes! Come to think of it, so does her sister! Maybe, just maybe, mom’s shoe collection might be kinda fun to explore…

Percussion

image

One afternoon running out for errands, we heard the distinctive rat-a-tat-tat of the marching band. As we approached the stoplight, we saw the percussionists practicing, much to the delight of the girls.

Mom turns 24! (wink, wink)

We enjoyed lunch with Grandma at our downtown deli. Our original plan of yesterday’s special Jimmy Johns $1 subs went out the window when we drove by the parking lot and saw the line wayyyy out the door.

After picking up Daddy from work, we ate supper at one of our favorite places, a Lebanese restaurant. The perfect evening beckoned us outside.

Then back home for cake (thankfully it wasn’t a big one!). Then my sister-in-law dropped of these macaroons from a local French bakery. Almost (almost) too pretty to eat!

And I ended too busy to stop for my free drink at Caribou, but my awesome husband made sure I got a cup anyway. A truly happy birthday…… Thanks for all the well wishes, everyone.

Happy birthday to mom!

I spent the last two days hitting Starbucks for birthday drinks, and today plan on driving through Caribou also. Can’t help these companies want to help me celebrate my birthday with free drinks!

Camping part II

We awoke in the morning to refreshing, brisk air and downed hot cocoa, scrambled eggs and bread for breakfast. Afterward, we found a very small trail that connected to the next camping loop.  “Dora” led the way with “Map.”

And, we didn’t take a “before” photo, but here’s an “after” photo of all the stuff we hauled in from our trip.
